January 2012
The year ahead? Come and have your say!
Our last meeting was the A.G.M. When all the positions in the committee were fought for with the usual bog-eyed excitement! Which means that very few changes were made! However, here is the latest officer list.
- Chairman Mark Pearce (under duress)
- Secretary Bill Michie (staying on)
- Treasurer Jason Channing (previous Chairman
- Membership Secretary Laurie (new appointment)
- Safety Officer Shahid "Bango" Banglawala (no change)
- News Letter Mike Moy1an (no change)
Quite a few things were discussed, regarding Hadstock, and a vote of thanks was given to Jason for his past (and present) efforts to tame the weeds, trees etc. Jason also carried out a new membership drive (our membership is now 70). Bill welcomed the new members, and asked them to bear with us as regards the flying directions, which we have found necessary over the years to avoid potentially dangerous situations..
All members were reminded to take great care when approaching the site when flying is already taking place, especially when the wind is southerly, and flyers are landing..
The A1an Banks Memorial Trophy was awarded to Laurie, in recognition of his valiant efforts to entertain us all with his (it seems) never ending supply of 1900 - 1930
scale aircraft, and also his unstinting willingness to help those of us who are not THAT good at trimming (or flying)! In fact a good all round egg!
The committee proposed that the Club Fee should remain the same (no increase), and that perhaps committee members should only pay half the usual fee. This was agreed by members, and a further proposal from the floor (Dave Fisher seconded by Chris Cutting)
was agreed by members, that Committee members should not have to pay any club fee.
This was in recognition of time spent and other expenses, which are not usually claimed.
Member’s proposals included the need for more Trainers, Club talks to be increased with perhaps Westons, and/or Ali? Future events will again include the Scale Day and Fun-Fly, (courtesy Bill). Possibly inter-club. or even “Teach-in”1 days to include basic aerobatics. In fact the committee were very open to suggestions for any interesting event, the emphasis being that it should be fun, and appealing to the majority, and easy to run.
A member enquired as to the poor state of the approach road, but it was pointed out that the road was the farmer’s property, and if the 20mph speed limit was adhered to, very little damage should be noted by car owners!
The meeting closed with hot sausage rolls, mince pies, and good humoured chat! Oh! plus tea and coffee!
Cheers Dears, Mike
